We all worry about car accidents from time to time. That is why we have insurance, just in case something happens. Unfortunately, there are times when the reckless or negligent actions of another driver cause serious injuries on the roadway. At Mayer & Rosenberg, P.C., we are ready to get to work if you or a loved one are injured in an accident. Today, our Kansas City car accident attorneys are going to discuss a recent crash that happened on the Blue Parkway.
This was a devastating accident
Police responded to an Aug. 19 crash on Blue Parkway at around 3 p.m. that killed one person and injured two others. The incident happened when a Chevy Cruz collided head-on with a Chevy Suburban in the eastbound lanes of traffic.
The man driving the Cruz, 24-years-old, died at the scene. Two men in the Suburban were taken to the hospital with critical injuries. As of this writing, police were trying to determine which vehicle crossed the center line and why.
Head-on collisions can lead to serious injuries
Head-on collisions usually lead to more serious crashes because they tend to happen at higher speeds. There are various reasons that these incidents occur, including:
- Impaired drivers swerving into the other lane
- Distracted drivers swerving into the other lane
- Drivers not realizing they are in oncoming traffic
Injuries in a head-on collision can be devastating. It is not uncommon for us to see the following in the aftermath of a crash like this:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Bone fractures and dislocations
- Loss of or damage to a bodily organ
- Dismemberment or amputation
- Other injuries that inhibit a person’s daily activities
- Significant disfigurement
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, we know that for the latest reporting year in the state there were:
- 153,422 total crashes
- 923 crash fatalities
- 57,270 crash injuries
Impaired drivers were responsible for over 200 of those fatalities and more than 3,000 of those injuries.
Crash injury victims are often left with enormous medical bills. If a victim cannot work while they recover, or if they are disabled due to their injuries, they could lose the income they need to support their families.
