Tyson Recalls Over 190,000 Pounds Of Chicken

On Behalf of | Jun 14, 2019 | Product Liability

When you buy something to use or consume in your household, the last thing you should ever have to worry about is that the product will cause you harm. However, we know there may be a time when you need a Kansas City product liability attorney. Today, we want to highlight a case that is even scarier – tainted food delivered to school for kids to eat.

At Mayer & Rosenberg, P.C., we are here to help if you or a loved one are injured due to a defective product. Let us secure the compensation you deserve.

What we know happened here

We have learned that Tyson Foods, Inc. has recalled more than 190,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken fritter products across the country. While we realize that major food recalls are not uncommon anymore, this one is even scarier than most.

  • These chicken products were shipped to school to be used in children’s meals.

The recall comes on the heels of three complaints from schools where hard plastic was found in breaded chicken products that were already distributed. None of the products affected were sold in retail stores.

“We are working directly with the institutions and food service companies that we distributed the food to on the recall,” said Worth Sparkman, the senior manager for public relations for Tyson.

  • Missouri is one of the states affected by the recall.

As of now, the USDA has not received any reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the recalled products.

It seems like we see stories like this happening more and more often. If you look at the government website that tracks current recalls, you will notice that defective products are not necessarily rare. They affect every industry. If we look at the most current items, we can see recalls due to:

  • Poorly designed products
  • Products that suffered manufacturing errors
  • Products that are incorrectly labeled

In the case of the chicken recall above, the likely culprit is a manufacturing error. One of the machines used to process the chicken probably broke, causing the plastic to mix into the product.

Many of the recalls we see involve products that are perfectly safe but have a label that does not alert consumers to allergens or other hazards present.
